The staff and community at secondary schools can be a trusted source of support and information for young people, including for reducing risky health behaviours. Through our free brief intervention training, Cancer Council ACT is empowering anyone in an ACT Secondary School community to have confident conversations about quitting with young people who are vaping or using nicotine. This training has no prior knowledge requirements, and will give educators, youth and social workers, health staff, pastoral care leaders, Heads of Year, and parents and carers the ability to;
- Ask about vaping and nicotine use in a non-judgemental way
- Offer personalised advice on the benefits of quitting
- Refer young people to safe and effective options to help them quit.
