No industry should be unsafe to work in and no death or injury is acceptable. And, because the whole community bears the financial cost of poor WHS, we know that safe and healthy work benefits everyone.

This is why, during October each year, Safe Work Australia ask workers and employers across Australia commit to building safe and healthy workplaces for all Australians.

As of June 2016, IARC had identified 198 known and probable cancer causing agents and circumstances; exposure to a number of these agents primarily occurs within the workplace, including solar UV. Read more about Workplace Cancers.  

Did you know the workplace is a major source of sun (UV) exposure for many adult Canberrans. It is not surprising that outdoor workers who arerequired to spend long periods of time working in the sun, day after day and year after year, have a higher than average risk of developing skin cancers. It has recently been estimated that 200 melanomas and 34,000 non melanoma skin cancers per year are caused by occupational UVR exposure in Australia.
