The SunSmart UV Alert

The SunSmart UV Index (UVI) is a quick and simple way to show the sun's UV radiation intensity level. It divides UV radiation (UVR) levels into LOW (1–2), MODERATE (3–5), HIGH (6–7), VERY HIGH (8–10) and EXTREME (11 and above).

When UV levels are forecast to reach 3 and above, the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) will issue a Daily SunSmart UV Alert- this signifies that sun protection is recommended because the forecast UVR levels throughout the day may be intense enough to damage your unprotected skin and eyes. The SunSmart UV Alert indicates the actual time of the day when sun protection will and will not be recommended. View today's SunSmart UV Index for Canberra.

In Canberra from the beginning of August through to the end of May UV levels are typically 3 and above for part of or most of the day.
