ACT Primary Schools with current SunSmart status are encouraged to access the following Cancer Council resources.

This new online national SunSmart educational website has been designed for early childhood, primary and secondary school teachers, school health nurses and school students (Years 6 to 9). Upon successfully completing these modules your school will receive an edition of Kidskin. Canberra teachers will also receive a professional development certificate from Cancer Council Australia. 1) Early Primary School Sun Safety Education Resource Kit (2009)

Availibility: A copy of this resource kit is available FREE of charge to all primary schools with SunSmart status. Schools that are not part of the National SunSmart Schools Program can purchase a copy of this resource for the RRP of $30.00 which includes postage.
Kit includes a CD-Rom with songs and large picture cards to assist teachers with the educational component of being SunSmart.
*This resource has been aligned with the the ACT Department and Training's Every Chance to learn Curriculum framework for ACT schools. Preschool to year 10.
2) Middle Primary School Sun Safety Education Resource (2008)

 Lesson 1.1- Noticing Light
Aims: Students will discuss the natural light in Australia using terms such as strong, harsh and bright.
Students will be able to name at least one reason for the light in Australia being brighter than it is in many other parts of the world.
Lesson 2.2- What are "polarized" sunglasses?
Aims: Students will investigate the weave concept of light.
Students will experiment with light filters and examine ways of changing light.

The 'Be SunSmart today from" sign is an ideal way to remind students, staff, parents and visitors to your school when sun protection will be recommended each day in Canberra. It can be downloaded, laminated and displayed in a location for all to see-but remember to change it each day, why not have a student "UV Alert monitor" each week!
