SunSmart Resources for ACT Childhood Centres

Early Childcare services in the ACT that have a current SunSmart status have free access to the following Cancer Council resources. Early childcare services that are not part of the SunSmart Program are encouraged to join the Program.  Join the SunSmart Program NOW. 

‘Be SunSmart, Play SunSmart’

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

An early childhood resource booklet for teachers and carers working with children from birth to five+ years of age. This resource is filled with ideas for educational play experiences. 

Availability: FREE to download for you service.

Early Childhood SunSmart Poster Set (6)

This set of educational posters consist of 6 A3 size colour gloss posters of young children and their carers being SunSmart. Each poster features sun protection information and ideas for teachers, carers and parents on the reverse side.

Availability: The set can be purchased from the Cancer Council for $35 (including GST, postage and handling). Services with a SunSmart status can purchase a set for just $20 (including GST, postage and handling).

Be SunSmart today from sign

The "Be SunSmart today from" sign is an ideal way to remind children, staff and parents to your service when sun protection will be recommended today in Canberra. It can be downloaded, laminated and displayed in a location for all to see.

Story Books

‘Frazzled Frogs’

A BIG and colorful A3 sized story book that tells how a group of frogs concerned about their little ones getting burnt by the sun, learn from the observation of people how to be SunSmart. Suitability: 3-5 yr olds.

A very simple, colourful and easy way to pass on effective SunSmart messages to young children.

'No Hat Brigade'

Lachlan and his grandpa enjoy the time they spend together. But one day Lachlan notices that Grandpa John never wears a hat in the sun and he wants to know why. A touching short story about honesty and friendship.

The Shade Handbook and CD (TCCWA)

Availability:  This comprehensive and practical publication on shade development can be loaned or purchased. To purchase a copy click here.

NEW SunSmart Countdown Song and Activities (2009)

The new SunSmart Countdown song was developed by Cancer Council Victoria and is sung by Justine Clarke. Original music composed and arranged by J Albert and Son. Original lyrics and vocal arrangement by Jane Lindsay, courtesy of Origin Music Publishing, administered by J Albert and Son.

This recording can only  be used to promote SunSmart, communicate SunSmart messages and educate the general public about SunSmart, sun protection and skin cancer issues. Canberra early childcare services have free access to this song and are encouraged to download the song, lyrics and activities to assist teachers and staff with the educational component of the SunSmart Program.
