Workplaces and Community Groups

Skin cancer can effect all of us in many different ways. Each year in Australia skin cancer kills over 1600 people. The Cancer Council ACT offers local indoor and outdoor workplaces, organisations, government departments and community groups the opportunity to learn more about skin cancer prevention and awareness including the importance of early detection.

Workplace medical checks and skin cancer

The Cancer Council does not operate, recommend or endorse any skin check services or clinics.  If your organisation decides to provide a skin check service for workers, it is important to ensure the medical practitioner conducting the checks has expertise and training in the area of skin cancer.

Remember:  All workers should be encouraged, and provided with information, to examine their own skin, whether thay attend a workplace skin cancer check or not.

Portable Information Display. (PID)

The Cancer Council also offers local workplaces, organisations and community groups the opportunity to hire out The Council’s Portable Information Display (PID). The display can be hired out at a reasonable price for the working week allowing your employees or group members an opportunity to access a wide range of invaluable information on general cancer prevention, early detection and awareness, including SunSmart and Quit.

To book the PID complete and return the PID Booking Form.

OSHC- Outside School Hour Care/ Holiday and Vacation Care

The SunSmart Schools and Early Childhood Program does not extend to OHSC services. However, The Cancer Council ACT does encourage all such services to develop and implement a comprehensive sun protection policy that will protect the children and staff in its care from the harmful effects associated with over exposure to UV radition.

Whilst many services may be in operation each day before and after the 'peak UV hour period', it is important to recognise that sun protection is still recommended when UV levels reach 3 or above. Staff and carers at such services are therefor encouraged to familiarise themselves with the daily SunSmart UV Alert.
