Wig Service
The Cancer Council ACT Wig Service sells new and near new wigs to people experiencing hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. Other headwear is also available. Please note that due to our limited stock, each client may purchase one (1) wig only. Wigs may only be purchased by clients who have lost their hair as a result cancer treatment.
The Wig Service operates from 2 sites. The larger is based at The Canberra Hospital on level 1 of Building 3. A group of dedicated volunteers help operate this service and it is open Monday to Wednesday 9.30-11.30am, appointments are not necessary.
Alternatively there is a smaller site at the Cancer Council office located at 5 Richmond Ave, Fairbairn. This service is available during office hours and appointments are recommended.
The Cancer Council is always appreciative of any new or used wigs that are donated to the service. If you would like to donate a wig please contact us.
If you would like to donate your hair towards making a wig you will need to contact a wig maker as the Wig Service does not make wigs. Louis Barnett & Sons in Melbourne (03 9428 9855) use donated hair to make wigs for people who lose their hair for a medical reason. Please contact them before cutting your hair as they are only able to accept certain types of hair.
