Cancer Support Groups
Cancer support groups offer mutual support and information for people with cancer and often to their families. Many people who have attended a support group say it can help to talk to others who have gone through a similar experience. Others have commented that being around people who understand can help overcome the sense of isolation they had experienced. Support groups can also offer many practical suggestions and ways to cope.
The Cancer Council ACT currently runs three support groups. These are open groups that have a trained facilitator to assist. The groups are:
Pink Links – for young women with Breast Cancer which meets 7.30-9.30pm on the 1st Tuesday of the month.
The Breast Cancer Support Group- for all women who have breast cancer, meets 10am-12 noon on the 3rd Saturday of the month.
Thursday Cancer Support Group -for people with any type of cancer and those who live or care for them 12-2 pm 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month.
There may be other cancer support groups available that may be suitable. Call the Cancer Helpline on 13 11 20.
