On 7 February 2011, I was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. This was classed as a Dukes C tumour.
I received wonderful treatment from the doctors and staff at the hospital during the time of the surgery and later during the long period of chemo.
I also have to mention the great work of the community nurses who became part of my life for 3 years.
In spite of all this I was lacking in practical knowledge of how to cope with all the changes that were happening to my body and mind.
It was at this time that I found Cancer Council ACT and their programs. Living with Cancer was the first one I went to. There I realised I was no longer alone.
From that beginning was other practical programs and also a support group.
The support and practical advice was not only for myself, but also for my family.
I now volunteer to support Cancer Council ACT so that they may continue support cancer sufferers.
