1. Access to information rights
Privacy of clients is of utmost importance to the Cancer Council ACT. This includes information or opinions about clients that we collect and record, which could be used to reasonably identify them.
2. Purpose of information collection
The Cancer Council ACT collects only information necessary for day to day operation of Council activities. These activities include provision of information, education, support and retail services and fundraising activities.
Information is collected via standard forms, surveys and online interaction.
3. Who else the information goes to?
There are no circumstances in which your personal or sensitive information is passed onto other parties. There are some circumstances where statistical information is collected via attitudinal surveys. Only statistical information contained in these documents is recorded and may be passed onto bodies that fund our programs.
In these instances information that would identify you is protected by our privacy and security measures and your personal information is destroyed or goes through a process of de-identification. In any case we do not collect information of a sensitive nature without your prior informed consent.
4.Privacy Act information
New private sector provisions under the Privacy Act 1988 (the Privacy Act), regulates the way many private sector organisations collect, use, keep secure and disclose personal information. Information about the Privacy Act can be found at

The Cancer Council ACT has developed a privacy policy and procedures around the Privacy ACT and the ten National Privacy Principles. We strictly adhere to the National Privacy Principles and the Privacy Act.

6. Financial Transactions
In the case of financial transactions conducted online we process standard credit card information (card type, card number, expiry date) via a secure, encrypted SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) session. SSL is the standard for secure web transactions. We maintain records of all financial transactions.
